Mid Essex GP practices get connected with new clinical systems

We were asked to migrate the records of all GP practices in mid Essex that used EMIS LV onto either SystmOne or EMIS Web following the withdrawal of EMIS technical support. This work was part of an Essex-wide migration of records.

During this programme of work, we encountered issues, including major data corruption and failed clinical system backups in the legacy (EMIS) system.

We successfully migrated all GP patient records onto either SystmOne or EMIS web, ensured corrupted files were fixed, and carried out extensive system and business change training for end users, all within an exacting schedule.

Practices using SystmOne now benefit from having one shared record for each patient across primary care, community care, palliative care, end of life. This, together with integration with 111 and out of hours, led to more joined-up care between services.

This programme gave mid Essex GPs access to the technical and clinical tools required to meet and exceed national requirements and 86 percent have access to a single shared patient record. Practices have shown great appreciation and recognition of the hard work and dedication of the team to get the practices to the necessary level of training, data quality and familiarity of their new clinical systems.
