Patients in West Essex are now able to pre-book weekend appointments at pop up surgeries through their GP, thanks to the expertise of NEL CSU’s Clinical Systems team.
Two pop-up surgeries have opened and three more are planned in the area following the award of funding from the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund. NEL CSU was invited by Stellar Healthcare and the local CCG to provide a number of services to support the set up and launch of the surgeries.
Our team of IT experts in Essex planned, built and delivered a modern and streamlined patient record system for clinicians which ensures that patient records can be shared between the hubs and the patient’s own GP. The Registration Authority team also played a crucial part, increasing the rate of Smartcard production and activity.
The project has been recognised nationally as a highly successful wave 2 pilot.
After four weeks, 200 appointments are being booked each weekend and patient numbers are expected to increase.
Project lead Paul Furneaux said: “Ensuring good communication and systems between the hubs and GP practices was a vital component of the success of this pilot project. The tight timescales involved were a challenge but our team went above and beyond to make this project succeed. We are delighted to be part improving GP services for patients in West Essex.”
Five hubs will be open across West Essex in Harlow, Loughton, Waltham Abbey, Dunmow and Saffron Walden by the end of November. The hubs offer patients all GP, nurse and healthcare assistant services. An additional 1200 appointments will be available each weekend in the coming year.
