We offer a wealth of clinical expertise and experience to help our customers meet and exceed core standards, good governance and CQC compliance. We do this through short term educational packages and a range of direct services commissioned for infection prevention and control (IPC), clinical quality and patient safety and experience as well as:

Subject experts process, interpret and translate complex clinical information and apply practice from pharmaceutical to nursing skills along entire care pathways to meet diverse population needs in healthcare settings, working in partnership with non-profit and statutory service providers.
Multi-disciplinary teams design and manage effective systems and processes like clinical reviews and audits, appeals and brokerage packages to support a range of healthcare services. These include access to treatments, expertise on cancer commissioning, technical guidance, risk management and financial reporting.
Our teams have a direct impact on individual patients and continuously promote patient-focused outcomes to shape service delivery, bespoke training and improved patient experiences.
Health Policy Support
We specialise in ensuring CCGs prioritise health care resources to best meet the needs of their populations through the development of robust, equitable and transparent evidence-based clinical commissioning policies. The team currently supports clinical policy development for CCG customers across Kent, Sussex and London.
The development of STPs offers an opportunity to remove variation in the application of CCG clinical policy criteria, creating equity of access for patients and reducing operational management difficulties for trusts. We provide end-to-end operational, technical and administrative support for local clinical policy development process.
Medicines management and optimisation
The medicines management team delivers specialist services that utilise their extensive knowledge and skills for commissioners including CCGs and NHS England.
We support customers throughout the commissioning process, from the assessment and understanding of a population’s needs to planning services to meet them.
Our subject experts have strong connections with NHS England, to understand upcoming requirements. We have experience of implementing enabling technology and, as the largest CSU, we have contacts across multiple healthcare communities to understand a range of practical solutions.
Our senior pharmacists provide strategic input to nationally recognised groups for policy consideration and are members of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
Our team are recognised authorities on Payment by Results exempt (PbRe) drugs and the complexity of prescribing them. We promote effective dialogue with CCGs to understand the impact of their plans on cost and demand. We help benchmark, forecast the cost and review the use of PbRes. We support the development of Blueteq approval processes to measure outcomes and manage performance.
Individual funding requests
The Individual Funding Requests (IFR) team offers specialised technical administration and end to end process management of clinical information from 39 CCG customers across London, Kent and Anglia.
We drive systems and processes to ensure that decisions are made on as many IFRs as possible before a treatment starts, releasing savings and ensuring patients benefit. Our subject experts understand the complexities and compliance requirements of local criteria and policies for low priority or limited effectiveness procedures.
The team’s ability to work at scale to support commissioners make robust, high quality decisions is also reflected in the volume of applications they process efficiently. This avoids having to go through a lengthier and costly panel process.

Infection prevention and control
We have an innovative Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team with vast experience of working with staff in the primary care, dental and acute sectors. This includes investigating MRSA, IPC training and review of IPC-related serious incidents (SIs).
We enable CCGs to ensure statutory and CQC compliance with these regulations through bespoke training, quarterly data on infections, post-infection reviews and IPC-related SI reviews
We provide the following IPC functions to GP and dental practices across all London STP areas, and can also provide these services to other external organisations:
- Advice and support to GP and dental practices across London during office hours
- Design for GP and dental premises to ensure they meet current guidelines and standards and advice on refurbishment and new build planning
- Audits at all GP and dental practices across London
- Advice relating to the care and treatment of individual service users
- Comprehensive IPC policy manual and guidance to meet CQC requirements
Our Clinical Quality and Patient Safety team provides a comprehensive service to manage all aspects of Serious Incidents (SIs) for NHS-commissioned providers.
We support pan-London and national service initiatives as well as horizon scanning to identify national and local activities impacting on patient safety and alerts for customers.
We help administer the national SI database (STEIS) for our customers, quality assuring provider compliance for the submission of 1074 final reports against the SI National Framework (2015) standards.
Our team offers real time alerts (RTAs), weekly reports of SIs and notification of ‘never events’, as well as the management of provider escalation and extension requests and panels to approve closure of SIs.
We monitor trends from incidents, and our subject matter experts across mental health, maternity and general medicine offer recommendations to improve safety in healthcare settings.
Cancer is the biggest cause of premature death in London, with 30,000 diagnosed each year and 13,600 dying from it. With prevalence forecast to rise, around half the population are expected to be diagnosed at some time in their lives. We help in tackling cancer rates through earlier diagnosis and transformed standards of care for people living with it, as well as offering engaging and impactful training for primary care.
The team currently provides expert advice and guidance for a population of 6.5 million people, engaging with stakeholders including STPs, vanguards, cancer alliances, CCGs, providers, NHS England, charities and cancer and specialised commissioning teams.
